Race Control departed for the finishing line with 2 boats neck and neck some 7 miles from the finish line. We were able to identify the navigation lights from the tracker and we watched the boats moving closer and closer. At 23h12 on the 23rd January, Kavanagh on Ray of Light glided over the finishing line taking Line Honours in the IRC fleet . Approximately an hour later, Adrian Kuttel on Atalanta, sailing singlehanded, crossed the finishing line. In true Corinthian spirit Mike Kavanagh and his crew on Ray of Light waited an hour for Adrian to finish to congratulate him. The boats motored in together to Iate Clube do Rio De Janeiro. On the dock, the crew of Norhi and Aventureiro 4 offered their congratulations and support. For the bridge crew it was out again to welcome the Brazilian entry, Audaz. It was a quick greeting then once again back to the finish the line to welcome the Italian entry, Vittoria Malingri and his crew on Translated 9. It was a busy yet exciting night for everyone.

It’s stormy and wet and we heading sort of into the wind which means the hatches are closed. So it is unbearably hot downstairs. I’m going back outside. Dying to hear who won the dice to the finish line and congratulations to both of the finishers today. See you soon for caprinha.

Cool Ideas Nemesis
All good with all on board. Tight wind angle with jib and mainsail with 2 reefs. Bumpy and heeled over continuously. Squall after squall last night. Some with lots of lightning. Hopefully clear of this area tonight. So great to hear that the lead boats are finished. Ant chance for updated finish times. Ray of Light
Felix
Felix out of and on the water. 11am is a busy time in the cockpit of Felix. Miss C carefully pours out the 2 litres allocation of water per person per day which remains in our reserve supply. No cooking water. In addition we have 500ml of milk per day pp plus the distilled water for the engine. Not a crisis but a little hardship. When Felix heels to the side we are sometimes able to pump a murky mix out the tap to make coffee. That fills us with a sense of triumph. Enough of water as it consumes our thoughts. In addition to the challenge of this race, the meerkat has decided to quit nicotine and is on day 7. Her moods are like the rolling swell that pushes us towards to Rio. Yesterday saw her send out an SOS to her family for an airlift off the boat, but today she is riding high on the swell & back to her exuberant self. She is also learning Greek & calligraphy. It does seem that Felix is a cloud buster as we always have blue sky above us and are either leaving orapproaching a large cloud bank. This does not please the sailor as there is wind beneath these elusive clouds. We plot other boats positions and continue to hope that we alone would benefit from gusts of wind to close the gap. Anyone helming is closely watched to ensure they are maximizing the available wind, and the crew are no longer shy to offer advice on how to negotiate both the swell and the wind.
