The South Atlantic Trophy
This is awarded to the winner of the Cape to Rio Race on corrected time.
There are 32 oz. of 18ct gold in the stylised boat hull and the sails are sterling silver.
The trophy was donated to the Royal Cape Yacht Club by the Chamber of Mines of South Africa for the inaugural race in 1971.

Brazilian Bruno Baqueiro has covered over 12000 miles on board Arribasaia, including two trans-Atlantic crossings, between Brazil, Spain and Portugal. Both him and Cape2Rio will be celebrating 50th birthdays in 2023.
Audaz is a 16-meter aluminum monohull designed by Finot. She is owned by Francisco Julio Galvão Lucchesi (Julio) togather with Decio Maia and Gustavo Lis who all have vast experience of ocean crossings.
Cassiopia, a Sadler 32, is a local entry and will be skippered by Geoff Sivertsen. Launched in the 80’s in Gothenburg, Sweden, she is currently based at The Water Club in Granger Bay, Cape Town.
