Alexforbes Angel Wings

The Royal Cape Yacht Club (RCYC) and Iate Club do Rio De Janeiro are thrilled to announce the participation of the Alexforbes Angel Wings, crewed entirely by students from the RCYC Sailing Academy. Following the success of the 2023 Cape2Rio campaign, where the Alexforbes ArchAngel secured an impressive third place under the leadership of skipper Sibusiso Sizatu, Alexforbes continues its generous support of the Academy.

Since its establishment in 2012, the RCYC Sailing Academy has been dedicated to providing youth from marginalized communities with opportunities in sailing and careers in the maritime industry. The Academy has positively impacted the lives of hundreds of young individuals, equipping them with technical skills and instilling essential life lessons in teamwork and fair play.

The students will be training aboard the Angel Wings, a 39 ft Oyster Lightwave, with the goal of fielding a fully female crew. The aspiring sailors are currently undergoing training to secure their positions on the Alexforbes Angel Wings.
