News from the fleet:
Nyamazela
Hi Jennifer, all well !
Adventurerio 4
Time…When was the last time you dedicated a long time to just ONE thing? By long I mean weeks. When was the last time you spent 2 weeks doing just ONE thing? Day and night? Everyday (and every night)? Yes, we have been just sailing for 2 weeks non stop! And for the sailors, when was the last time you had you spinnaker up for a long time? How long was that? We have had our kite up for one whole week non stop! We have been preparing for this Cape2Rio for 3 years, have been away from home for 2 ½ months, have been sailing for 2 weeks, have had our spi up for one whole week…Time is different out here…We just crossed out way from Brazil to South Africa a few hours ago. Today we will complete 3000nm sailed since Cape Town. We are now studying how to approach the continent. Still some tactical decisions to make…

Halo MJ all is good on board hiding under the amazing Rijk shade cloth it is beautiful out here healthiest air condition to breath in. The wind has gone slightly lighter we are cruising along with the boat speed of 4/5 knots good angle wind speed of 10knots. All is well on board we just pushing now to get to the finish line can see the fatigue is kicking in and we sleeping more during the day but we pushing hard to get over the line. 14 days at sea lots of hours and miles had been covered sailors are starting to feel it the excitements still going strong we looking at few more days to go till the finish line. The sailing this week has been super exciting lovely weather out here doing easily 7/8 knots boat speed the is nothing makes a sailor happy than having good excellent wind conditions yes now and then we get a bit bored but still going strong , sometimes the boat seems a bit small. On the technical side we haven’t had any issues at this point the boat is behaving well we have managed to get most of the issues out of our way also the diesel spill went easy on us , the ionly issue which we think it won’t be a big issue is the rudder aliment. The team has made a good recovery after 3 days of no wind sitting in one place with frustrations, just a day before we got into no wind we were doing 20+ of wind speed sailors having a great competition on board on who does the most boat speed, amazingly we had Azile with the top boat speed of 15.2 that hasn’t been broken yet the boys are still working hard to break the record “I hope they don’t break the boat as well” then we sailed into no wind now we find ourselves competing on who makes atleast 1knot of boat speed Renaldo seems like he has a good touch and excellent feel when it comes to light wind. After few hours of the competition on who makes the boat move in no wind we finally crossed the Greenwich Meridian at this point we didn’t see the point of trying to fight getting the boat to move we’ve dressed into our party costumes and started having fun on board it wasn’t just any celebration it was the celebration of the crew crossing the GWM for the very first time we had all kinds of goodies specially organised by the sailing office the funniest moment is when we saw one of our crew member back to life after few days of fight seasickness in bed but when we crossed the GWM he said to hell with seasickness it is time to party “I guess miracles do happen” steam bread and beef stew was made by the Skipper lots of sweets and fun games took action it looked like we just had to loosen up a bit because straight after the party the wind came through and the day was finally made! When we crossed the GWM we struggled a bit with keeping the time going to bed reason is because it took us a while to adjust to the fact that now we 2 hours behind the SA time we had few moments finding crew half asleep on the helm ,We spend our free times playing games and telling stories on our child’s hood one thing we’ve picked up all parents are the same lol, sailors thought of swimming once the boat started moving funny enough no one thought of swimming when it was 3 days of beautiful awesome swimming conditions the boat not moving at all if you jump one can easily clim back on board ,skipper said “you all had your swimming chance if you jump while the boat is moving be sure you are a Olympic swimmer with gold medals because the will be lot of catch up to the boat the is no way I’m turning back for you” On board we have tested all kinds of food Danny boy becoming the head chef making sure he keeps everyone’s tummy full at all the times we trying very hard to persuade him to follow his other career which we all know about it but doesn’t recognise it and that is being a chef. We hope by this time next week when we send our next update we will be looking at Rio de Jeneros harbour so far we have beautiful wind conditions navigation and tactics among the team is going really good , we have noticed that all the boats that went far west at the beginning of the race had come up slightly even some went above our line and our game plan is to stick with fleet no fencey moves just stay with the fleet keep on making those good calls on board. We currently have completed 1,725 noutical miles 1,575 to go. To the fans and families we have been having good times all your wishes are coming through we are closing in to our destination it wouldn’t be possible without your support we have been reading the massages that you all wrote for us those massage give us a positive impact gives a reason to keep pushing much appreciate.
Atalanta
Less than a thousand miles to go. Bring it on!

Talking about gybing.. maybe now, maybe later today, maybe tomorrow.. so the real question is whether we can have a rum and coke now or if we have to wait until we have gybed.. Very sorry to hear about the retirement of now three boats.
Cool Ideas Nemesis
All good with all on board. S4 up again early. Lost mast head halyard on the hoist today, Sigi up the mast to retrieve it. All sorted and on our way again. Great sailing at the moment, about to jibe for Rio in adout 4 hours time. Then hopefully down hill to the finish.
Felix
Felix on the move. We get excited when the wind picks up to more than 8kn. The propeller starts whirring and reminds us that we are making progress on our way to Rio, albeit a lot slower than our sponsors would like. Our response, we are maximizing their exposure, although we doubt that petrils, flying fish or albatrosses would be interested in Rope or Financial advisory services. We have passed 3 vessels in the last 2 days. Miss C has turned basmati rice into something that resembles Risotto. At least the frozen beef strogenhoff cannot be morphed. Not much goes unnoticed where our existence revolves around keeping the boat pointing in a general WNW direction and sustaining life. Tomorrow we have a bread baking cook off (Sailor & Doubtfire) and we (Miss C) attempt to install the backup autohelm. The nurse and artist emerge only when on shift, otherwise they may be found fast asleep contorted in their burrows. We continue to chase clouds in an attempt to gain a few extra knots wind speed, as the one who looks like a sailor is convinced of the direct correlation. The rest of us remain unconvinced. We have 2 tribes in the boat, the Go West & the Go North (Flat Earth Society) gangs, and there is always lively debate about what could have been. But here we are and tomorrow will give us new hope of a few extra knots.
Ray of Light
Just when leased expected, the reel starts screaming. Sean was add the helm, Dadda, dadda, dadda, Marlin on, Marlin on! Sean grabs the rod, I take the wheel. Drop the kite, drop the kite, quick, I am getting spooled, Sean cries out. Heidi, Tammy and Jen rush onto deck, kite down the forward hatch. Sean straps into the black magic and the fight begins. Maneuvering ROL to fight the fish under mainsail only was quite a challenge when the angler expects you to handle the boat like a sport fisher. Tack, tack, gybe, gybe, at one stage sailing backwards. Sean took the rod around the solar panel frame, down the port deck, around the forestay, staring out to the starboard side of the boat, winding like crazy. Next thing I see the fish jumping off the port bow. Turn the boat, wind wind wind. After almost an hour and much sweat and anxiety, the fish came to the stern. Another pair of pliers donated to the deep! Pics taken and the fish released. We are back on our way, S2 up, wind slowly getting lighter, going to be a challenging day or two ahead.

All ok on board.
