We went through the finish line yesterday afternoon at 14:22 local time. We were met by Luke Scott and the photographer, Allan at the finish line on a rubber duck. We were presented on the water with 24 cold Bohemia Cervaja Puro Malte – Luke cant count because we are only 6 on board.
We are tied down at a harbor wall next to the Cape to Rio yachts. The mood is festive. There was a huge thunder storm last night in Rio. We had big surges on the water and were scared our fenders could pop. Haspa Hamburg is moored the second boat from us. Her huge winch was torn off the deck last night from the surge in the water. I have not been to the city yet but those who did told us of trees blown over in the streets, a bus sideways over the centre of a road, people sweeping water with brooms out of flooded restaurants. It was a huge storm – and some boats like Bally Who Too, Tam Tam, Rotary Scouts and Northern Lights were still out there on the ocean. The lightning was deafening and lit up everything completely white.
Today is very hot and humid but we are happy. The younger crew went out into the city last night, they are gone now again – probably to Copacabana. I am hydrating with Bohemia as I type this e mail. It is wonderful to be a human being.
