Our poled-out genoa when the wind was too strong for our light-weight spinnaker – JML Rotary Scout

Adriana:
Strong winds ahead
Best regards

Anjo:
light airs last 24hours. House battery issues, working to resolve them

Argonaut:
Last night we passed umoya and exchanged friendly conversation. Today is Sunny’s birthday and we made French toast for breakfast! lots of boats around us! The end is near! See you soon!!!

Mojie:
ST 25, SS 0, AT 29, AP 1011.0

Mojie had a fast night going through the last part oil fields – we changed down from S2 to S4 to G3 as the wind dropped. The lit platforms were truly surreal, evoking scenes from a futuristic, apocalyptic movie. We are now becalmed 36 NM from the finish line, with the sails of Almagores 2 visible to our starboard stern side. Swimming was happening until we noticed all the jellyfish blooms!

Thanks for looking after us this whole race. Hoping this is the last race report till the next Cape 2 Rio Race!

From the blog: We thought we had done well as daylight set in, but the light winds that afflict us now, and most of our converging competitors seem to suggest the hardest yards of all might lie ahead of is. You Know Who have probably beaten us, and until wind returns, there’s nothing anyone can do to alter the race outcome.

Myrtle of Bonnievale:
THE SCIENCE OF LEVITATIONAL SLEEPING

Cloud cover 100% with occasional showers, wind from 030 deg at 14 knots, barometer 1017, swell 2 meters, outside temperature 28,0 deg C, water temperature 27,9 deg C, smiles – many, happy faces – everyone.

Inge is studying and researching Newtons’s Laws. To add to it. She has found this far that the fatter people on board stays on their mattresses when sleeping. Inge, being the lightest and sleeping in a forward cabin, finds that she is only 0,1 seconds on her mattress every 3 seconds. The rest of the time she is levitating above the mattress. We are sailing at 60 degrees to the wind and the boat bumps over the waves and only when down in the trough of a wave, she touches the mattress. Pietman considered strapping her down to the mattress. To me it looks like it is a case of survival of the fattest.

Love to all from all.

Pierre Albertyn

JML Rotary Scout:
From the blog:As Ewan and I were about to hand over our night watch, the DSC VHF radio alarm sounded, Ewan jumped up thinking it was a distress alarm from another vessel. It turned out he had accidently activated his Man overboard Automatic Identification System unit! We woke up Daniel and he sent out an all station broadcast on VHF Channel 16 in case there were any vessels that may have picked up our false alarm.

Saravah:
Winds yesterday were inconstant, alternating between dead calms and +20. Some crew even jumped into the sea for a swim! As soon as the sun set we could see the first loom of the distant oil rigs. This morning we found ourselves surrounded by more than 20 of them and a pool of dolphins welcomed us into Brazil!

It’s our final sprint in the fight for a podium place. Something unimaginable less than 3 weeks ago, when at the eve of the start our boat was still being worked by mechanics and the crew around the clock! 2 days ago our fresh water tanks emptied and we have been showering exclusively with pure ocean water (at least some of the crew…). We still have enough drinking water to reach the finish line (but not enough to bath with).

Blue skies and nice winds. Now tight reaching (always!) with our Bolsonaro (ops!) green spinnaker. We hope to cross the finish line tomorrow morning, and the crew is working very hard to do it in less time than the previous crew did at the last race. Now is a race against the clock.

Saravah!
