STERNA

Gerrit Louw from Allspice Yachting and his crew have just entered the Cape2Rio Race 2023 on Sterna. SV Sterna is a Swan 53 Monohull with Gerrit Louw at the helm. The Swan 53 is an iconic design from the board of Germán Frers and was built in Finland by the famous Nautor yard during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Every hull was built using state-of-the-art materials and techniques to produce a yacht that can be easily and safely sailed across any ocean by limited crew (often couples).  After several upgrades Louw bought Sterna in Grenada in 2021 and started their journey back to Cape Town.

Allspice Yachting is a purveyor of sailing adventures around the Cape of Good Hope and on the High Seas. Their 50th anniversary Cape 2Rio kicks off over a year of adventure with the first of two Atlantic crossings on the way to Europe for the Ocean Globe Race start (in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Whitbread Race).

Skippering their Swan 53 Sterna in Cape 2 Rio is Justin Taylor who previously directed the Clipper Race and has a wealth of experience on racing yachts. There are still a couple of spots available for avid sailors to join the campaign and get to know and sail with some of the Ocean Globe Race crew.
