10th Entry – Vulcan

Vulcan was launched in 2007 to compete in the 2007 and 2008 Audi Med Cup Circuit. Built by King Marine and comes off the drawing board of Botin Carkeek, well known for their designs of the Volvo Ocean race boats such as Puma’s Ill Mostro and the New Zealand entry “Camper” and the vast majority of the TP 52’s that competed in the Audi Med Cup. Her sponsors a Spanish power utility company Iberdrola and a Portuguese clothing and accessories company Quebramar boasted a team primarily made up of Spanish Americas Cup sailors. She competed for two years on the Med circuit and then was moth balled and occasionally sailed in Mediterranean and the Canary Island regattas as the Chrysler Queberamar Team. During that period she won the Copa del Rey regatta with the Desafío Español’s Americas Cup team.In 2012, she was imported to South Africa by Hylton Hale and Johnny Cullum and was converted and modified to compete on the local IRC racing circuit.Team Vulcan, who sails for Royal Cape Yacht Club, is the current IRC 1 South African Champions.
