News from the fleet

It seems like it was an uneventful day from most of the fleet for the last day of 2025. A time for reflection and gratitude.
SV Alexforbes Angel Wings: Greetings from the middle of the ocean! π Itβs Day 5 of the Cape 2 Rio race, and the mood onboard *Alexforbes Angel Wings* is calm and steady. Sibu has already shared a brief update from Day 1, but from my point of view, Days 1 and 2 were nothing short of hectic. The drama started right on the start line when we discovered a twist in the jib β something none of us had ever experienced before. To make matters worse, this all happened just *eight minutes before the start*! Thankfully, after we gybed near Robben Island, we managed to sort everything out and get back on track. That first night was intense. The wind was strong, and while on night watch I witnessed gusts of up to *39 knots* β yet our Angel just kept flying like it was business as usual. Truly impressive. But despite all these challenges, we pushed through β and since then, *Alexforbes Angel Wings has truly lived up to her name*. Everything is currently going well and according to plan. As a team, weβre happy with how things are running: the ladies are doing solid 3-hour watches, while the guys are mostly flowing with the rhythm, especially holding it down during the night watches. Interestingly, weβre hardly touching the snacks onboard. Not sure why! π Yonela and I have stepped into full-on galley duty, making sure everyone gets breakfast and dinner, and thatβs definitely helping morale.
SV Audaz II: News : all good here, no problem this last night. Wondering what we will find on that bucket this night!!! π¬
SV Nuna: The sea is calm. The wind is mild. The ride is comfortable. The most pressing question on our mind today is what to make for dinner in our Instantpot.
SV Vineta: Β A pretty uneventful day aboard Vineta today, which is probably a good thing! Glorious trade wind sailing. Rattled off another 200 mile day’s run.
I’m not superstitious but this morning as I was filling in the logbook, I noted down the total distance run so far:…666…As I wrote down the fateful number the message came through that the loo was blocked! Coincidence? I think not…
Anyway, the problem eventually got resolved but it then meant taking a bath in 4 800m of water. Lovely warm, clear water. Very refreshing.
Put in a series of gybes during the day to try and keep speed at the max. A2 and full main all day.
Clear skies during the day, so I managed to make a start on taking some sun sights with the sextant which got Liv and Theo intrigued. Lots of maths lessons going on aboard the good ship Vineta now.
