SV NUNA: Father-and-son duo Andrew Dayton Snr and Andrew Dayton Jnr have completed the Cape2Rio Race aboard their Open 40, NUNA. When asked about the highlight of their crossing, both gave the same heartfelt answer – the time shared together as father and son. True bonding time at sea, and memories that will last a lifetime.

With Less than 300 nautical miles to reach the finish line under the sugar Loaf mountain in Rio,
A palpable excitement grows on our vessel.
It has been an extraordinary journey so far with many new experiences.
One of many that brings a smile to my face is when skipper flashes up the Barbecue, when weather permits, and a glorious steak and chips is enjoyed by all.
Perfectly cooked medium rare – mid Atlantic, running at speeds of around 7knots.
We have celebrated both Skipper Geoffs Birthday on the 4th and Mikes on the 16th.
Other highlights has been the incredible night skies, due to lack of city light pollution, a super intense display of stars, and satellites accompany you on your watch.
Fresh Bread is cooked in the oven by Dion every few days and this is always a welcome treat.
Happy hour, as the sun sets, is always a fun time as tactics are discussed and possible weather route change’s are debated over a cold beverage.
Invariably the daily watch reminder comes up on who is on which watch when.
Sleeping on the high sea comes easily now as one becomes accustomed to the creaks and groans of the vessel and the rushing water soothes your peace. Crew are quick to react if a strange lurch is felt or an out of place odd sail flap occurs. Then straight back to sleep the remainder of your off watch period.
Rain squalls sometimes arrive un announced and can be quite a wake up call for whomever is on the wheel.
Wind speeds can change from a leisurely 15 knots to 35 knots within seconds and keen skills are needed to controll the runaway!
The fresh rain washes away the salt build up on deck and leaves Serendipity squeaky clean and shiny.
We are all looking forward to our arrival in Rio which should be in the next 48 hours and the friendly welcome committee.
We are ready for the predicted heavier weather but our sights are firmly locked on Cabo Frio and the entrance to Guanabara Bay
