News from the fleet
After a massive duel spanning 3,300 nautical miles and 22 days at sea, African Skimmer and Fryd finished within just 45 minutes of each other. On corrected time, Fryd edged ahead by a mere five minutes in the final miles of the race.
The Race Committee watched as Fryd sailed downwind toward the finish line with her orange spinnaker in full bloom. There was some puzzlement when the spinnaker was suddenly dropped in such perfect conditions – only to learn moments later that the kite had blown to pieces on the final approach.
Spirits aboard African Skimmer were jubilant as they crossed the line, with the fathers and sons on board fully appreciating their unforgettable bonding time at sea.
Congratulations to both African Skimmer and Fryd on an epic and closely fought finish.
