News from the fleet
Quite a few of the fleet have crossed the meridian, a stunning moonrise from Vinetta and an incredible whale visit for Audaz II.
SV Vineta: Going through the logbook of the last 24 hours aboard Vineta does not make for very exciting reading, which is not to say that the sailing has not been fun. On the contrary, today has almost been too easy!
Notes from the log:
14:53 Z: Crossed the Greenwich Meridian in 24 54.452 S.
20:05 Z: Large shooting star
04:00 Z: Gybed
08:00 Z: Gybed
12:00 Z: Day’s run 206.91 miles.
That’s it…
It seems from social media posts that there are a lot of questions about our strategy so as navigator I will let you in on our secret ;)…
First thing every morning I troll all the social media to see what our followers think we are doing / should do. I then enter all the options into a spreadsheet and take the average. So keep the ideas coming, your support is invaluable to us 😉 😉 😉 Best suggestion from our supporters during the race may or may not lead to winning a packet of left over freeze dried food…water not included.
SV Alexforbes Angel Wings: All in good times — happy 2026 season to everyone.
A lot has happened since we left Cape Town for the South Atlantic. Many miles have been covered, plenty of fun has been had, and there’s much more still to come.
A special thank you to the Sailing Office and the Cape2Rio organizers for making New Year’s Eve so memorable, especially as we crossed the Greenwich Meridian.
During this journey, the team has already shared some incredible moments. We’ve had deep and meaningful conversations sparked by the Conversation Cards from the New Year’s Eve bucket — special thanks again to the Sailing Office for that thoughtful touch.
At the same time, we’ve been keeping a close eye on the other competitors. Vineta is catching up quickly, but we’ll fight until the very last mile — without any breakages.
So far, we’ve covered 1,119 nautical miles, with 2,369 nautical miles still to go.
With that said, we’d like to once again wish our skipper, Sibu, a very happy birthday, which we celebrated on New Year’s Day.
SV Metric 4T: We gibed. We going to look sick for a while but we’ll be back.
