Thirty-six yachts cast off from Cape Town on January 4 2014 for the Cape 2 Rio yacht race with crews from all over the world. A variety of yachts will be flying the flags of eight different countries including newcomer Angola. The first Cape to Rio race was inspired by Bruce Dalling’s victory in the 1968 Single-Handed Trans-Atlantic Race, and was held in 1971 to Rio de Janeiro. Subsequent races were called the South Atlantic race as they went to Uruguay rather than Brazil. The 13th edition was back to the original course, Cape to Rio, in 2011 and in 2014 the race was renamed Cape2Rio. Published by BusinessLive
