News from the fleet
While we wait on the arrival of Metric 4T in the next couple of hours there is still plenty of news and banter coming from the middle of the fleet!
SV African Skimmer: Another day for the records. We were sailing comfortably yesterday afternoon and it to the evening looking forward to our arrival in Rio until our much loved and pampered A4 workhorse finally gave up the ghost. She split right across the middle and collapsed in two pieces. This time there was no hope of repair. Wind and sea picked up shortly after this so we continued at much reduced speed with our main and J2 up until things started to improve at first light. We were able to raise the A2 at this point and have been trucking along nicely since then in a modest 15-20 knot breeze. Fryd following in our wake as ever was able to close the gap on us a bit while we floundered around in the dark but I am pleased to say it looks like we are pulling away from them again in spite all of the hot air blasting out of Jarl’s mouth (and possibly elsewhere as well). Jarl, Andrew we will save a cold beer for you in Rio when you eventually get there. Ok Jarl (Fryd). We have just given you all the concessions we are prepared to give away in one race. We tore up our precious and carefully nurtured A4 workhorse last night and messed around through the gusts mostly on the main and J2. We have got the A2 up now and about to show you a clean pair of heels again. We will have a cold beer ready for you when you eventually get to Rio…
SV Fryd: A busy night it was indeed
We have both the A5 and the A2 intact, but Andrew and I was totally exhausted after a squally long night. However, we have now each had a sleep and ready for the fight, flying the big orange A2, slowly closing in on you
Remember, it ain’t over until the fat lady sings…, witch by the way happens to be the name of my A2
