News from the fleet
Day 10 update from the Cape2Rio fleet: The breeze is finally filling in across the course, much to the delight of crews settling into life at sea.
SV Alexforbes Angel Wings: Toughest, Most Tiring Tactical Race
Hello team — we hope the ocean has been kind to everyone.
It’s Day 9 of the race, and the wind has treated us well so far. Since around 1 a.m., it’s been gusting up to 15 knots, which has allowed us to gain ground on Vineta. They were stuck in a lighter breeze where they were, so we took full advantage of the opportunity to close the gap. Out here, it truly feels like a real chess game.
We had a bit of rain as well — unfortunately not enough for a proper shower, so we’re still salty! That said, the light drizzle helped cool us down significantly after the sun, and it definitely feels a bit cooler now. We are staying well hydrated in the heat and make good use of the bimini when needed.
More updates coming soon from the ocean.
SV African Skimmer: The last 24 h have been quite exciting. Sea has been pretty wild. We have been flying a full bag and main with the wind gusting 25 knots. Big following sea. New speed record for this trip of 17.0 knots. Wind has moderated a bit now but sea is still very confused and making for challenging sailing.
